Bay Area- wide Spring Cleaning Drive!
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
The Spring Cleaning Drive went great. A benefit concert was organized. At first, the bands and I didn’t expect much because the selling of the tickets was very slow. When the show started, people started coming one by one and two by two. 73 people ended showing up at a venue that could hold a maximum of 80 people. The food and drinks which were originally going to be for sale was given for free and anyone there could tell that everyone had a great time with food, drinks, and great music. $730 was raised and given to various organizations. The Berkeley Food and Housing Project, Operation Dignity, BOSS, and YEAH! were the beneficiaries receiving monetary donations and toiletries bought with the money raised from the concert.
Back to the actual drive, Congregation Netivot Shalom did a great job, their members contributed a lot of clothes and when I finally boxed up all the clothes in my little room, over 600 pounds of clothes were collected. Among the collections were new ties, shoes, dresses, and so on.
Rock your Awareness handled logistics down in the San Jose area and they did a great job. Special thanks to Vanae, Richwood, Alisa, and the rest of the staff for their brilliant execution of the project.
Thank you to RedHouse, the Infantry, and the Spaceboyz for their performances at the concert.
